Parking / Bank / Box Office

The Parking Department handles thousands of cars during the Fair and the many year-round events held at EXPO New Mexico. Parking employees are the first point of contact for visitors to the grounds.

Sponsorship

The success of the State Fair would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors. The Sponsorship Department is active year-round, cultivating relationships with potential sponsors. Nearly $2 million in monetary and in-kind contributions were brought in by the Sponsorship Department in 2010.

Accounting & Budget

Responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions at EXPO New Mexico. On a year-round basis, the Accounting Department tracks and balances capital improvement projects, pays vendor invoices, balances and collects event settlements and ensures that taxes are up-to-date. During the Fair, the Accounting Department staff monitors the carnival, all vendor payments, all customer receivables and premium payouts.

Purchasing & Procurement

Ensures that EXPO New Mexico is in compliance with the State of New Mexico Procurement Codes and monitors all contracts and purchases. In addition, the department makes every effort to purchase products and services locally and economically while assuring fairness to the vendors doing business with EXPO New Mexico.

Concessions & Exhibits

Responsible for processing thousands of concessions and entry applications each year. The staff reviews and selects vendors, assigns space and generates contracts. More than 500 vendors participate in the New Mexico State Fair each year alone, and some 20 vendors provide food and beverage service to the many patrons who visit EXPO New Mexico for year-round events.

Entry

From agriculture to livestock, floriculture to photography and various food contests, the Entry Department processes thousands of entries in more than 2,600 categories of competition. Entries are judged and displayed in the Creative and Home Arts Building, School Arts and Flower Building, Agriculture Building and EXPO New Mexico’s four major art galleries.

Horse

The New Mexico State Fair Horse Show hosts roughly 20 individual horse shows throughout each year featuring 22 different breeds and disciplines. The Horse Department staff works with local horse associations to ensure compliance with the rules of each association; schedules and hires judges, processes entries and assigns stalls for up to 800 horses.

Livestock

The Livestock Department is responsible for managing the Open and Junior Livestock Shows, as well the Indoor Exhibits from the 4-H and FFA youth. Major tasks include hiring superintendents, judges, veterinarians, announcers, auctioneers, and seasonal staff, updating and revising the Premium Book, scheduling, receiving entries, ordering awards, paying out premiums, residue testing and DNA testing.

Events

Charged with renting out the Fair’s facilities on a year-round basis and coordinates with event clients for logistics as well as their equipment and personnel needs. On average, there are more than 200 public events held at EXPO New Mexico including trade shows, arts and crafts fairs, sporting events, horse shows, art exhibits and concerts.

During Fairtime, the Events Department is responsible for booking a wide variety of entertainment at Tingley Coliseum, Indian Village, Villa Hispana, the African-American Pavilion, State Fair Free Stage, children’s and strolling entertainment, theme days, spectacular and special attractions.

Payroll

The Payroll Department keeps up with EXPO New Mexico’s staffing needs. During the State Fair, the number of EXPO New Mexico employees increases to upwards of 1,000 employees under 100 on payroll year-round. Payroll oversees all aspects of employee benefits, insurance and worker’s compensation issues.

Information Technology Systems

The IT Department is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all computer hardware and software. In addition, the three-member staff researches technology and makes decisions on what technology to purchase.

Media/Public Relations

The Media Department coordinates advertising and public relations initiatives for EXPO New Mexico and the State Fair. In addition, the Media Department writes and edits marketing materials including news releases, media kits, brochures and the maintains this here website and manages all aspects of the advertising campaign. The Media Department works with television and radio stations on-site during the Fair to form partnerships and create promotions.

School Days

The New Mexico State Fair School Days program is a statewide outreach program that invites students, developmentally disabled children and adults, disabled veterans and Head Start Programs. In addition, daycare programs, the Boy and Girl Scouts and city, county, state and federal programs that serve the handicapped and visually impaired also participate. In 2010 nearly 16,000 students from 400 public, private, charter, home schools as well as other governmental agencies attended the State Fair at no cost to them for gate admission or parking.

Operations

The Operations Department employs all building, grounds and facility maintenance crews. Trades personnel include carpenters, electricians, plumbers, gas technicians, heavy equipment operators, mechanics, welders, painters and masons are on hand to build, alter, repair and maintain the EXPO New Mexico facilities in accordance with state and federal code requirements.

The Operations Department works directly with the City and State Fire Marshal’s offices, Construction Industries, Regulation and Licensing, Pipeline Safety and the Public Regulation Commission to ensure that EXPO New Mexico is a safe entertainment venue. The department also works in conjunction with Facilities & Capital Projects Department to coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair work with the all capital improvement projects.
